The World According to Garp by John Irving

Life, death, feminism, adultery, lust, success, failure, and wrestling are just a few things you'll encounter as you span the life of T.S. Garp. Oh, and bears. Irving's fourth novel is bizarre, tragic, hilarious, and undeniably entertaining. If the first few pages hook you, rest assured, Irving's rich imagination never lets up. The characters and events surrounding Garp's conception are just as peculiar as those leading up to his death.

Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People by Amy Sedaris

I guarantee this is the most fun you'll ever have with a craft book. Unlike most craft books, you needn't lift a glue gun or learn a new stitch for maximum enjoyment. Don't even bother getting off the couch. Sit, relax, and delight in Sedaris' whimsicality, her quick wit, and her amazing photo spreads. This collection is simultaneously hilarious and visually stimulating and I see no reason why you should live without it.

A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking

What a magnificent introduction to the Universe. Black holes! Time travel! The Big Bang! Forget about your high school science class and open your eyes to a text that is easy to understand and actually enjoyable to read. Furthermore, learning about the Universe is a great way to put your problems into perspective. For example, the tragedy of a bad hair day loses its significance when you consider the endless ways in which our planet could cease to exist. Thanks Stephen!
